The county's older VINE fact sheet described jail feeds every 15 minutes, but that dated statement is not a current service guarantee. VINE is an alert layer, not a permanent Jefferson County Jail release archive.

The 2026 county schedule gives qualifying resident requests the first 100 standard paper pages and first two labor hours without charge, then permits listed copy and labor rates. Idaho's current framework states outer response periods of up to 10 working days for residents and 35 for nonresidents. Ask for a cost estimate before broad review begins.

The official Jefferson County Jail page identifies its adult pretrial and sentenced mission. The 2018 PREA audit describes 135 rated beds, seven housing units, three booking holding cells, an inmate-worker unit, special housing, and male work-release space. It also says juveniles are not housed there.
The 2021 PREA survey recorded 489 admissions, a year-end population of 42, and an average daily population of 65. Those numbers show jail scale and turnover. They are not release counts and should not be used to invent an annual release figure.

Jefferson County Jail Transfers
A receiving-agency entry can resolve the most important ambiguity in a Jefferson County Jail release record. If IDOC accepted the person, use its Resident/Client Search. An overall “In custody” record may identify a state location. “In community” may instead show a supervision district, officer, and phone. A county sentencing case does not mean the person stayed at this jail.
Federal cases can involve USMS custody and local beds before BOP placement. The BOP locator becomes the useful historical tool when the person appears in its 1982-present data. Another county jail transfer must be checked with that jail. None of those movements should be called community release until the next system confirms it.
Note: Ask for transport or receiving-agency information when the Sheriff disposition uses a transfer label without naming the destination clearly.
Jefferson County Jail Record Limits
A current custody answer and a historical release record serve different needs. A live status can tell whether the jail still reports a person at that moment. It cannot preserve the full reason a prior booking ended. Jefferson County does not publish a current roster, however, so even the first question may require a call or VINE check. Documentary confirmation comes from the Sheriff record created during the booking and custody change.
Retention is also channel-specific. The jail page gives no public retention term for release records or online entries. Court cases may remain available under ICAR 32, while sealed or Clean Slate-shielded material can have reduced public access. VINE is built for status and notification, not permanent history. A person who once entered IDOC may remain name-searchable after sentence satisfaction, although IDOC says the convictions cease to display.
These limits explain why a blank screen must be described narrowly. It may reflect the wrong system, an old event, restricted access, a spelling mismatch, or a later record change. It does not select one release type. Ask the Sheriff whether it holds the booking and release document, then use the response to choose the court or receiving-agency follow-up.
Jefferson County Jail ICE Holds
An ICE detainer may turn the ordinary Jefferson County Jail release point into a transfer. ICE describes a request for up to 48 additional hours beyond the otherwise applicable release time so the agency can assume custody. The county event and a later ICE release are therefore separate records.
