Find Federal Custody Releases

To find someone released from federal or immigration custody connected to Jefferson County, first identify the agency that held the person after the county booking. No dedicated federal prison or ICE detention facility was verified inside Jefferson County. A local custody endpoint may still be a transfer to the U.S. Marshals Service or Immigration and Customs Enforcement. BOP, USMS, and ICE maintain different records and public tools. A county release record proves departure from the jail, while the receiving federal system proves whether custody continued and when its own release occurred.

Jefferson County Federal Release Paths

Federal custody is not one facility path. USMS manages many people from federal court-ordered detention through acquittal, conviction, or delivery to the Bureau of Prisons. It may use local, state, private, or federal beds. BOP operates the durable public locator for people in its data. ICE runs a separate civil immigration detention system.

A Jefferson County Jail booking can end because the person entered one of those systems. That is a transfer, not community release. Ask the Sheriff for the custody disposition and receiving agency. Then use the receiving agency's record to determine what happened next. No reviewed source established a current Jefferson County ICE contract, so immigration transfer must be described as a conditional path, not routine practice.

Two events may exist: Jefferson County release or transfer can occur first, followed later by a separate federal or ICE release.

Confirm Federal Custody Release

Use the BOP Inmate Locator when the person entered Bureau custody. Search by BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS register number, or by name with optional age, race, and sex. Match cautiously. BOP results can show name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location.

  1. Obtain the receiving agency from the Jefferson County release or transfer record.
  2. If it is BOP, search by register number when available, then review date and location together.
  3. If the person remained under USMS, use the federal docket and the appropriate District of Idaho office.
  4. If ICE assumed custody, search ODLS promptly with the required exact identifiers.
  5. Keep each agency's custody end as its own event and verify ambiguous results.

The BOP result explanation says a past release date with no location means release occurred on that date and the person is no longer in BOP custody. Location “RELEASED” has the same no-longer-in-BOP-custody meaning. It does not prove that all supervision or other custody ended.

Federal Release Records Contacts

USMS has no public historical released-person locator comparable to BOP. Its public materials also limit personal, transport, and schedule details. For a completed federal case, the federal docket and BOP record are normally the useful sources. Contact USMS only for the present information it can lawfully disclose.

For the county-side record, the Jefferson County Sheriff request form can seek the booking sheet, release date and time, custody disposition, authority, and receiving agency. That local record does not replace the later federal release record.

Jefferson County Federal Facility Limits

No federal prison, dedicated ICE detention site, or verified ICE contract inside Jefferson County was established in the official sources reviewed. This is a bounded finding. It does not prove that federal agencies never use temporary holding space, local jail beds, transport stops, or out-of-county contracts.

USMS can house a federal prisoner in a local jail while a federal case proceeds. BOP placement may occur later. ICE custody is civil and separate from the criminal systems. Because agency and location can change, the receiving-agency field and the next locator are more reliable than assumptions based on the building where the person was first seen.

BOP Jefferson County Release Results

BOP's locator covers federal inmates released from 1982 to the present. Records before 1982 may require the National Archives. A future date is projected and can change. An “UNKNOWN” release date means the confinement term has not been determined, not that release has no legal endpoint.

BOP resultCareful meaning
Past date and no locationReleased from BOP custody on the shown date.
Location “RELEASED”No longer in BOP custody.
Future dateProjected date that may change.
UNKNOWNConfinement term has not been determined.
No post-1982 matchRecheck identifiers and agency; absence alone proves nothing.

Release from BOP does not necessarily end federal supervised release or parole. Another sovereign may also assume custody. The locator establishes BOP's custody status, not every obligation or later event.

The official explanation screenshot source shows how BOP interprets a released result.

That interpretation keeps “released from BOP” narrower than “free from all custody or supervision.”

Jefferson County ICE Release Check

ICE's Online Detainee Locator includes current detainees and people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. Search by exact nine-digit A-number and country of birth, adding leading zeros when needed, or by exact first and last name, country of birth, and optional birth date. People under 18 do not appear.

The 60-day released-person scope makes ODLS useful soon after an immigration event, but it is not a long-term archive. Once that period passes, absence cannot establish that ICE never held or released the person. The information line is the fallback when a valid search fails or more current routing is needed.

An ICE release is also separate from release from Jefferson County Jail. The Sheriff record can prove the handoff. ODLS or ICE documentation can prove the later immigration-custody result.

Can ICE Delay Jefferson County Release?

An ICE detainer asks another holding agency to keep custody for up to 48 hours beyond the time the person would otherwise leave so ICE can assume custody. That request can turn a Jefferson County jail endpoint into an agency transfer rather than community release.

Search promptly after the county event. ODLS includes released ICE records for only 60 days. Preserve both records because the county transfer date and the later ICE release date describe different agencies and different events. Do not collapse them into one release.

No current local ICE contract was verified. The detainer path is therefore an important possibility when the record names ICE, not a claim about ordinary Jefferson County practice. A missing ICE result after the public window proves nothing.

USMS Jefferson County Custody

USMS manages federal defendants and prisoners between court-ordered custody events and transfer to BOP. A person may be held in a county, state, private, or federal bed during that period. Physical presence at Jefferson County Jail does not convert the federal case into a county sentence.

Because USMS lacks a BOP-style historical release locator, follow the federal docket for acquittal, detention, sentence, or commitment activity. Then use BOP once the person appears in its data. A Sheriff's transfer record can bridge the local jail event to the federal path.
